THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Minister of Justice to1) instruct the Attorneys-General of the Provinces to instruct their Crown Attorneys to make greater use of the provisions of the Dangerous Offenders Act;2) provide a greater degree of forensic psychiatric assessment and treatment for persons convicted of violent crimes where such treatment is indicated for the rehabilitation of these prisoners;3) review the power granted under the prison system and the Parole Act to stress protection of the public rather than the alleged rights of those convicted of violent crimes.
