THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada Convention issues a press release and sends an urgent communication to Prime Minister Mulroney, the Right Hon. Joe Clark, Minister Responsible for Constitutional Affairs and the Hon. Mary Collins, Member Responsible for the Status of Women expressing our dissatisfaction with the proposed constitutional amendments and urging that the proposals be revised to ensure:1) gender equality in the Senate by a system of proportional representation;2) pro-active application of gender equality in each proposal being discussed;3) that recommendations made by the constitutional conferences be better applied throughout the proposed amendments.FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada endorses NAC’s call for a women’s constitutional conference (to be held in Ottawa, August 24th) and ensure BPW’s participation in the conference; FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada Board of Directors, as a highest priority in this biennium, monitors most closely the continuing constitutional reform process and communicates our ongoing concerns to appropriate federal and provincial representatives.
