THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that BPW Canada urges the Government of Canada, especially the Minister of Health to work with the provincial governments to mandate public health units across the country to establish teenage pregnancy prevention coalitions similar to the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit model to address local needs and provide information about healthy choices as well as supportive social environments to teenagers.FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that BPW Canada urges the Government of Canada to undertake a national program of public information and education about the dangers and consequences of teenage pregnancies.AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that BPW Canada urges all clubs and all members to raise awareness in their communities and work with the local Familly Planning Assocs. where ever possible about the prevalence and dangers of teenage pregnancies, to initiate and/or support programs such as Healthy Communities – Healthy Youth, and to work to establish and/or support teenage pregnancy prevention coalitions similar to the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit model in their respective communities and provinces. AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that BPW Canada urges its provincial organizations to lobby their provincial governments especially the Minister of Health, to ensure the provision of free contraception to teenagers to help reduce the risk of teenage pregnancies and STD infections.
