THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Government of Canada to amend Bill S-6 (or any other legislation substituted for it) to ensure that, where other illegal acts are involved, criminal intoxication not be seen as the primary one and used in plea bargaining as such.FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT members of the judiciary be made fully aware of changes in legislation affecting the use of intoxication as a defense immediately upon enactment and be thoroughly informed as to the seriousness of the abuse of women and that educational programs be put in place immediately to ensure the judiciary is fully informed.
