THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Department of Health and Welfare of Canada to adopt specific policies concerning human reproductive technologies and that these policies include:1. Full and complete disclosure by physicians and all other health care professionals to patients concerning all technologies available to her to achieve the desired results; and2. That these health care professionals give accurate and complete details, including the duration of preliminary screening, psychological profiling, testing and sample collecting and its frequency, hospitalization, drug therapies, side effects and affects, and physical and emotional trauma; and3. That there be full disclosure of statistical analyses of success rates of each and all technologies both new and old and these analyses and results be published for public distribution; and4. That it be acknowledged that subsequent to the above disclosures, the decision making process is the sole realm of the female patient and is to be in no way interfered with by other parties; and5. That every attempt to determine male fertility be first carried out before subjecting the female to invasive testing; and6. That gametes and embryos may only be used with the explicit and informed consent of the donor and clearly defined regulations and policies on ownership be established in favour of the donor.FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Government of Canada to reevaluate the priority given to funding for human reproductive technologies within the context of their success rates and the lack of funding for basic health care provided to all women throughout Canada so as to emphasize preventative health care, and that there be universal access to any public funding being made available.
