THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada:1. Commends the Government of Canada and in particular the Minister of Justice, the Honourable Ron Basford, for abolishing, under Bill C52, 1978 (an Act to amend the Criminal Code and to amend certain other Acts in relation thereto or in consequence thereof) the offence of rape and advocating the creation of two new assault offenses.2. Urges the Government of Canada to amend Bill C52 as follows:a) Delete the offenses of Aggravated Indecent Assault and Indecent Assault from the Sexual Offenses Section designated Assault Offenses to establish them as assaultive and not sexual offenses, with no differentiation on the basis of gender.b) Amend the Assault Offence section to provide:(i) that consent shall not be inferred by lack of resistance.
