THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Federal Solicitor General’s Office to direct:! that the Queen’s Counsel be directed to take immediate action to ensure strict enforcement of restraining orders and of conditions of parole, and they immediately issue a warrant for arrest of any person found to be in violation of these court orders;! that there be immediate arrest and enforcement of maximum penalties for anyone found to be in violation of restraining orders or probation;! that there be recording of sentencing, release, conditions of parole and changes to information regarding court orders that have been issued within 48 hours so that RCMP and enforcement officers can immediately access up-to-date information via computer when an incident regarding an known offender occurs;! that there be a review and restructuring of the sentencing process;! that there be developed effective programs of rehabilitation and mandatory counselling in order to stop the cycle of violence;! that there be provided sufficient staffing for the Queen’s Counsel to expedite handling of cases involving violence against women and children.
