THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Government of Canada to adopt and implement without change or delay the recommendations of the Task Force on Federally Sentenced Women outlined in their report entitled Creating Choices”:!The establishment of five (5) regional facilities located cross Canada and an Aboriginal Healing Lodge for native women. !The creation of a community-based treatment and release strategy for each woman at the time of her incarceration to greater facilitate the treatment, release and rehabilitation of individual women prisoners. !The establishment of adequate, qualified staffing, adequate treatment of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, sexual and physical abuse matters, mental and physical health needs. !The provision of family visits, possible co-habitation of minor children, spiritual needs, educational and job training facilities, recreation and leisure needs.FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada urges the Government of Canada to open these new regional Centres on a priority basis.FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT if the above resolution is passed, BPW Canada removes Resolution 66/14 from the Policy Handbook.”
