THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT BPW Canada:1. commends the Government of Canada for introducing in Bill C-72/75 anti-discrimination legislation in Federal matters,2. strongly supports the establishing of a Canadian Human Rights Commission and recommend that such a Commission be given broad scope and strong powers to initiate and enforce action,3. supports the inclusion in Bill C-72/75 of Sections (e.g. Section 4 and Section 5) that promise some protection from discrimination for services, facilities and accommodation in the federal field - the first time any such protection has been directed there,4. recommends that Part IV (Protection of Personal Information) be redrafted to provide greater protection for the individual, and less for government documents,5. strongly urges the Government of Canada to remove from Bill C-72/75 all sections that relate to employment practices (e.g. Section 6 to 16 inclusive, Section 45, 51 and 52) and to place them in the Canada Labour Code in an expanded form that embraces the principle of Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value; and6. strongly urges the Government of Canada to insert as an exemption from Section 49 of Bill 72/75, Section 12 (1) (b) of the Indian Act which deprives the Indian woman who marries a non-Indian and their subsequent children of their status as registered Indians and the rights that flow from it, but does not so deprive the Indian man who marries a non-Indian and their subsequent children.
